What Rules Should You Check Before Booking a Selangor Auditorium?

Selangor's mix of council, university and commercial operators means the rules vary more than the prices do. Settle these five before you sign.

• External catering. MINES and DECTAR both prohibit it outright, which changes the F&B budget before you start.
• Public holidays. Council halls commonly charge double or add 25% to 50%. Several close entirely on Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas.
• Alcohol and cooking. Municipal halls generally prohibit alcohol, smoking and any cooking on site, so a live-station menu is not an option.
• Booking windows. Council terms usually require settlement a month ahead. University halls book around the academic calendar, not yours.
• Service tax. Since 1 January 2026 it has stood at 6%, charged only by SST-registered operators. Many council halls fall under the threshold.
