A Look Inside the Malaysian Petroleum Club: A Corporate Event Space in the Petronas Twin Towers

A strong agenda in a forgettable room is a hard sell. The same agenda lands differently 170 metres above Kuala Lumpur, with the skyline in the window and the Skybridge on the club's own levels.

That's the setting inside Malaysian Petroleum Club (MPC), a private business club for the oil and gas industry on Levels 41 to 43 of Tower 2. The club is now open to the public for events, so any company can book a room.

If you're shortlisting a corporate event venue in KLCC, this one has meeting rooms, dining rooms and a bridge between the towers.

Three Levels, 170 Metres Up, With the Skyline in the Window

KLCC was planned as a business district around a park, with the PETRONAS Twin Towers as its anchor. Architect César Pelli designed the towers and the PETRONAS Twin Towers is currently the world's tallest twin towers.

Tower 2 rises 451.9 metres, and the club's three levels sit about 170 metres up. Level by level, the setting changes.

Dulang Suite on Level 41 has floor-to-ceiling windows. The Lobby Lounge on Level 42 has the skyline as its backdrop, and Seligi Pavilion on Level 43 has warm lighting and city views. The Tapis meeting rooms have views over the cityscape too.

A skyline is the one slide nobody has to build. For a meeting meant to be remembered, this is the height to book at.

A Private Business Club for Confidential Meetings and Negotiations

Private is the word that matters here. MPC is a business club for the oil and gas industry, and event guests step into that same setting.

The dress code is written for business: office attire or smart casual from Monday to Thursday, and smart casual from Friday to Sunday. Children under 18 are admitted to the club on Saturdays only.

Tapis Room 1 and Tapis Room 2 suit small, intimate negotiations and confidential meetings, which makes them the place to start for a conversation that shouldn't be overheard. Private rooms, executive lounges and social spaces are part of the club too, so guests can step out of a session without leaving the club's own floors.

Exclusivity here comes down to three plain facts: a private-club address, written dress rules and private rooms for confidential talks. A host can point to each one when briefing guests, so nothing about the setting comes as a surprise.

Four Meeting Rooms and a Karaoke Lounge, for 1 to 25 Guests

Tapis Room 1 and Tapis Room 2 each have a capacity of 1 to 12 guests. Opening the two together makes one larger room for board meetings and presentations.

For a working group of up to 20, Duyong Room is the largest of the four meeting rooms. The Meeting Room has a capacity of 10 to 12 and is the fourth.

Presentations run on a projector, a TV screen, microphones and a sound system, with Wi-Fi and on-site tech support available. Event staff are on hand too, and the club is air-conditioned throughout.

From Buffet Lunch to Receptions for 250, All on the Same Floors

Lunch is the easy place to start. Seligi Pavilion, on Level 43, is a Chinese restaurant with Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, a capacity of 1 to 70 guests and private lunch and dinner service.

Its round tables seat up to 70, which makes it the room to look at when a group wants conversation across the table rather than a head table. Corporate dinners, business entertainment and client appreciation events are all formats held here.

Dulang Suite, on Level 41, is the room to look at when the conversation matters more than the production. It has a capacity of 10 to 100 guests, and dishes on the à la carte menu run from traditional Malaysian flavours to international cuisine. Seated dinners and cocktail receptions with passed canapés are both available, and so are executive galas and company milestone dinners.

KIKU Hall at Malaysian Petroleum Club set up with rows of chairs

KIKU Hall is an event space for 10 to 120 guests, the largest room below the Lobby Lounge. The Lobby Lounge, on Level 42, is the biggest room in the club. With the furniture cleared, it's an open floor for exhibitions, product launches and receptions, with the skyline as the backdrop.

All catering comes from the club's full in-house banquet service, so menu, room and view are arranged in one place. A full bar is available as well, and the menus span Chinese, international, Asian and Western cooking.
