What Should You Check Before Booking a Seminar Room in Penang?

• Which bridge you send drivers over. Penang Bridge lands nearer Bayan Lepas, the Second Bridge nearer Batu Maung, and the RM5.74 toll is island-bound only.
• Weekend and public-holiday bands. Independent rooms step up on Saturdays and Sundays and again on a public holiday, sometimes by RM120 a day.
• Parking before you commit. George Town street bays cap at two hours, so a full-day booking there needs a named multi-storey in the joining instructions.
• Service tax band. Standalone hire sits at 6% from 1 January 2026, while function space inside a hotel package may be taxed at 8%.
• Small operators and tax. Anyone under the RM1,000,000 rental turnover threshold isn't required to register, so some quotes carry no service tax at all.
• Service charge. The 10% at hotels is set by the operator rather than by law, and plenty of independent rooms add none.
• Deposit and cancellation. There's no national standard, so read the operator's own scale instead of assuming one.
